I learned an expensive lesson last month and I'm sharing it so maybe someone else avoids the same mistake. I took my 2012 Mini Cooper to a random garage near my office because the brakes were squeaking. They charged me 800 dirhams for new front pads, but the squeak came back after two weeks. I took it back and they said the rotors needed replacing now, another 600 dirhams. I paid it, but the brakes still felt weird, kind of grabby and inconsistent. Finally, I got frustrated and took it to a shop that actually knows Minis. The mechanic there showed me that the previous garage had installed the wrong pads (standard Cooper pads on an S model), had damaged one of the wear sensor wires, and had not lubricated the caliper slide pins at all. One of the calipers was starting to seize because of it. I ended up having to replace both front calipers, pads, rotors, and sensors at a cost of 2,500 dirhams. The shop I went to is run by master Mini Cooper brake pad experts who actually understand the car. I'm not naming them here to avoid looking like an ad, but please, for the love of your Mini, take it to a specialist. These cars are picky about brakes. Don't learn the hard way like I did. End of rent.
PSA for Mini owners: Don't let just anyone touch your brakes
